Strange Attractor to grupa irlandzkich artystów wizualnych i dźwiękowych tworzących improwizowane spektakle dźwiękowe, w skład której wchodzą Anthony Kelly, Danny McCarthy, Irene Murphy, Mick O'Shea i David Stalling. Grupa przeprowadzi 4 długotrwałe improwizowane występy w różnych środowiskach audiowizualnych w Niemczech i Polsce (8.11. Berlin, 9.11. Szczecin, 10.11. Gorzów, 12.11. Poznań), odnoszące się do kwestii środowiska i krajobrazu.

Również w ramach tej edycji (#4) odbędzie się wystawa sztuki dźwiękowej w Errant Sound.

ANIMA MUNDI to projekt oparty na współpracy i wymianie doświadczeń w dziedzinie sztuki dźwięku i performansu dźwiękowego, poruszający kwestie ekologii i zrównoważonego rozwoju. Specyfika sztuki opartej na dźwięku polega na jej silnym związku ze środowiskiem. Ponieważ artyści dźwiękowi często wykonują nagrania i działania terenowe w naturze, środowisku miejskim lub w związku z architekturą, ich praktyka jest silnie relacyjna. Tematy te znajdują odzwierciedlenie w skupieniu się ANIMY MUNDI na relacjach między ludźmi a ich otoczeniem - zarówno na interakcjach międzyludzkich, kształtowaniu wspólnej przestrzeni, jak i trosce o przyrodę. Anthony Kelly
Anthony Kelly jest artystą dźwiękowym i wizualnym z Dublina w Irlandii. Jego praktyka obejmuje malarstwo, rysunek, rzeźbę, instalację dźwiękową, film/wideo i improwizowany performance. Choć jego prace są zróżnicowane pod względem konstrukcji, koncentrują się głównie na zmiennej i fragmentarycznej naturze doświadczenia zmysłowego. David Stalling
David Stalling pracuje jako kompozytor, improwizator, artysta dźwięku i instalacji od wczesnych lat 90-tych. Jego prace były wykonywane i wystawiane w Irlandii i za granicą. Danny Mc Carthy

Mick O'Shea
Mick O'Shea mieszka i pracuje w Cork w Irlandii. Jest artystą wizualnym, który jako medium wykorzystuje dźwięk, rysunek i jedzenie. Strange Attractor: Experiments in quinary landscapes (durational live sound performance)

Strange Attractor is a group of Ireland-based visual and sound artists for improvised sound performances, consisting of Anthony Kelly, Danny McCarthy, Irene Murphy Mick O’Shea, and David Stalling. The group will carry out 4 durational improvisation performances in different audiovisual settings in Germany and Poland (8.11. Berlin, 9.11. Szczecin, 10.11. Gorzów, 12.11. Poznań), relating to questions on environment and landscape.

This small tour of Strange Attractor takes place within the context of the pan-European project and network ANIMA MUNDI, which is based on cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of Sound Art and sonic Performance Art, addressing issues of environmental changes, ecology, and sustainability. These themes are reflected by ANIMA MUNDI’s focus on the multiple and diverse relationships between human and non-human beings and things as well as between them and their surroundings. ANIMA MUNDI started in 2022 as a collaboration between the renowned Sound Art-project space Errant Sound (Berlin), the space for experimental music and cross-disciplinary exchange Liebig 12 (Berlin), Miejski Ośrodek Sztuki and Terminal 08 (Gorzów). This year, the project welcomes our new project partners Farpoint Recordings (Dublin). ANIMA MUNDI #1 consisted of a sound performance-event with Berlin-based sound artists at Miejski Ośrodek Sztuki and two sound installations at Terminal 08 last year in October, and it was followed by #2, a Sound Art-exhibition with Poznań-based and Berlin-based artists at Errant Sound in November 2022.

ANIMA MUNDI is a project that is based on cooperation and exchange of experiences in the fields of sound art and sonic performance art, addressing issues of ecology and sustainability. The specificity of sound-based art lies in its strong connection to the environment. As sound artists often perform recordings and field activities in nature, urban environments or in relationship to architecture, their practice is strongly relational. These themes are reflected by ANIMA MUNDI’s focus on the relationship between humans and their surroundings – both human interaction, the shaping of shared space and care for nature. Sound sensitivity becomes the starting point for a deeper understanding of our coexistence.

ANIMA MUNDI aims at establishing a network of sound artists/ artists working with the means of sound, that facilitates artistic exchange on the most existential questions of our time: How can we meet and understand the climate crisis? How to deal with the environmental transformations? How can artists, cultural spaces and a society in general practice and support sustainability? What can we learn from each other regarding possible solutions?

Anthony Kelly
Anthony Kelly is a sound and visual artist from Dublin, Ireland. His practice includes painting, drawing, sculpture, sound installation, film/video, and improvised performance. Although diverse in construction, his work chiefly concentrates on the shifting and fragmentary nature of sensory experience. To explore this he uses the discarded or overlooked aspects of the world around us which he enlarges and amplifies to create his work. Recent projects and exhibitions include A Sound Map of Dún Laoghaire, The Soft Wave, The Drawing Project, IADT Dún Laoghaire; Blue Monday, MART, Dublin; Unforeseen, The Joinery & RHA, Dublin; and Cold Wave, Triskel Arts Centre, Cork. Anthony maintains an ongoing collaboration with David Stalling. He is a member of Projector Collective and Solus.

David Stalling
David Stalling has been working as a composer, improviser, sound and installation artist since the early 1990s. His works have been performed and exhibited widely in Ireland and abroad. With a sensitivity to the sonic nature of both lived in and imagined worlds, David’s practice transcends the traditional definition of composing, utilising a variety of media: acoustic and electronic sound; field recordings and found objects; video and lighting. David also experiments and improvises with self-built instruments and microphones. David is a recipient of the 2014 Artist-in-Residence award at the University College Dublin School of Science. He has curated and produced numerous festivals and events. He is a founding member and artistic director of the EAR ensemble (2002-2009). He is a former director of the Maynooth Chamber Choir (1999-2001) and the NUI Maynooth Guitar Ensemble (2007-2013). He is artistic co-director of the Hilltown New Music Festival since 2009. He maintains an ongoing collaboration with Anthony Kelly. David is represented by the Contemporary Music Centre Ireland and is currently based in Dublin.

Danny Mc Carthy
Danny McCarthy is a pioneering multimedia artist whose main interest lies in combining visual and auditory experiences. He continues to be a leading exponent in performance art and sound art, exhibiting and performing in Ireland and abroad. Most recently he has worked with improvising artists Katie O’Looney and Claire Guerin as part of The Lost Haiku project. They recently performed with guests David Stalling & Anthony Kelly in the SOMA gallery at the Sonic Arts Festival Waterford. Some of his other projects include The Memory [box] Room, Soundfjord, London, 2013, The Memory Room, The Guesthouse, 2012 & Hilltown New Music Festival 2011, Strange Attractor and A Rocky Road (both Crawford Gallery, 2011). During August 2012, the Strange Attractor project travelled to venues in Boston and New York. He has curated many exhibitions and audio CD projects, including Sound Out (with David Toop), Bend it like Beckett and Rediscovering Locality (A sonology of Cork Sound Art). In early 2006 he founded The Quiet Club, a floating-membership sound performance group, with Mick O’Shea. A track from their Tesla CD was included on a recent Wire magazine Tapper CD. McCarthy’s book and CD LISTEN hEAR was published by Farpoint Recordings during 2009.

Irene Murphy
Irene Murphy is a visual artist that utilises sculpture, performance, drawing and constructed spaces. She is active in initiating and participating in many group and collaborative projects and events, such as The YOYO Club, Ideal State Agency, Electric Rain, Us Live, Seesound and Club House. She is one of the Domestic Godless trio who pursue adventures in a culinary landscape and is a founder member of the Cork Artists Collective and a director and founder member of the Guesthouse. Mick O'Shea
Mick O'Shea lives and works in Cork, Ireland. He is a visual artist who uses sound, drawing and food as his medium. In 2003 he formed a collaborative partnership with fellow sound artist Danny Mc Carthy which has become recognised as one of Ireland’s leading sound art improvisation groups called the Quiet Club. They have met with considerable success and have toured extensively in Ireland and internationally. He is a director of the Guesthouse art project www.theguesthouse.ie and has been instrumental in establishing a vibrant and growing sound art scene in Cork city.
